A couple of dashboards for you as we look forward to the Dixie Vodka 400 this Sunday at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. These dashboards combine prices from daily fantasy games, Salaries on DraftKings and FanDuel, and the betting market (odds of victory). The odds of victory are transformed into win probabilities to make comparisons to the prices of drivers available on the two big daily fantasy sites.
The first dashboard plots FanDuel Salary on the horizontal axis and DraftKings Salary on the vertical axis. The probability of winning the race, based on betting market odds from mybookie.com, are shown in terms of the size of the circles. The corresponding odds are noted with the driver name. Compared to the linear trend line, this chart illustrates which drivers are relatively more/less expensive on which daily fantasy site. Notice the price of Kyle Busch compared to the other top drivers on DraftKings vs. FanDuel for a simple comparison. Looking at the size of the circles, it can be seen where the favorites lie on the salary scales for both sites. Although Harvick and Truex were both co-favorites at the time of gathering this data early Friday morning, Harvick’s price well exceeded Truex on both sites. Kyle Busch, the 3rd favorite on the board, can be added to a roster on DraftKings for substantially less than either of the favorites. Other big relative differences in pricing of salaries can be seen as we move away from the favorites toward the longshots.
The second dashboard has two charts, each isolating the probability of winning the race versus salaries on each daily fantasy website. The probability of winning the race is on the horizontal axis and the respective salary for each game is on the vertical axis. A simple logarithmic trend is plotted to illustrate the relationship in both cases. The gap in salaries for each probability of winning the race (derived from the betting market odds) is evident for Harvick vs. Truex (much bigger gap on FanDuel) and for drivers such as Hamlin vs Keselowski on DraftKings, where Hamlin is considerably more expensive to put in your lineup on that site compared to FanDuel. It is my hope that these charts provide some insights into your daily fantasy lineup building and add to the fun for this weekend’s race.
