The following dashboard presents some valuable information about week 4 games in the NFL. The “Watchability Index” is based upon betting market point spreads and totals for the week and the season win totals (over/unders) heading into the season. This information can be combined to peer into the future and think about what games are the most “Watchable” games for week 4 in the NFL. The visualization shows the absolute value of the point spread on the horizontal axis and the total (over/under) on the vertical axis. Additionally, the sum of the win totals (home team plus road team) is noted by color with yellow being the highest sums and red being the lowest sums. The shape reveals the day and time of the game. With the uncertainty around positive tests in relation to Tennessee and Minnesota, neither of those games are currently shown on the visualization.
Based on this week’s numbers, what games are most “Watchable”? The most “watchable” games are typically in the upper-left hand quadrant, where games are expected to be close and high scoring. The best game in this grouping is the Buffalo-Las Vegas game as the Bills look to continue their perfect season and Las Vegas looks to bounce back from last week’s loss. Cleveland-Dallas, Arizona-Carolina, and New Orleans-Detroit are also in this quadrant promising relatively close games with a substantial amount of points being scored.
The lower-left hand quadrant has expected tight games, but with lower expected scoring. Indianapolis-Chicago may be slightly under the radar but is a big game this weekend to see if Chicago can stay perfect and to see how real the Colts’ offense is against the Bears defense. Jacksonville-Cincinnati is expected to be close, but features two likely non-playoff teams and what can be said that already has not been said about the Thursday night contest between Denver and the Jets?
The lower-right quadrant has games that are expected to not be close and have relatively few points scored. Two big expected blowouts are shown here, Giants-Rams and Ravens-Washington, and two games that with spreads closer to a touchdown, but still have relatively low expected scoring in Philadelphia-San Francisco and the Chargers-Bucs.
The upper-right hand quadrant features expected high-scoring games, but each with point spreads around a touchdown. Two NFC powerhouses, Seattle (vs Miami) and Green Bay (vs Atlanta), are featured here along with an intriguing matchup between New England and Kansas City.
From my point of view, the top 1:00 game is Cleveland at Dallas and the best 4:05/4:25 game is Buffalo at Las Vegas. I hope the index helps you in looking forward and planning for your weekend of NFL football. Enjoy the games.
